It's raining a little bit now in Lanzarote, so I decided to stop taking pictures and use the press room of the competition to post a few shots from yesterday.

Islas Canarias Santa Pro, day 3

Amazing day of surfing at the Islas Canarias Santa Pro yesterday at La Derecha de La Santa, the day started with really nice glassy conditions but a little bit slow, changing into a light onshore breeze in the afternoon but with more waves.
Today the competition is starting right now at San Juan, it's a little bit small but looks nice and it's supposed to get better, so we are expecting another great day of surfing, with the remaining heats of round two and the start of the round of 48.

It looks nice in the pictures, but it was too long between sets to run the competition, it´s supposed to get better during the week.

Islas Canarias Santa Pro, day 1

Yesterday they nearly finished the first round at San Juan, the day started with small but glassy waves, getting bigger during the day but with an onshore breeze picking up.

Today everything changed, the wind tuned SE and the swell NW, so San Juan was windy and flat, they moved the contest site to La Santa, there were some nice waves there, but was too long between sets and the wind, despite being offshore was a little bit too strong, so finally the called the day off.

Towards Lanzarote

Tomorrow starts at Lanzarote the Islas Canarias Santa Pro, a WQS 6* PRIME and the list of surfers is amazing, with names such as: Kekoa Bacalso, Julian Wilson, Cory Lopez, Josh Kerr, Neco Padaratz, Alejo Muniz, Gabriel Medina, Nat Young, Nathan Hedge, Jay Thomson, John John Florence, Sunny Garcia, Kai Barger, and of course the best locals and spanish surfers: Jonathan González, Jose Mª Cabrera, Franito, Aritz Aranburu, Gony Zubizarreta, Hodei Collazo, Eneko Acero… well, the list goes on and on, so if you want to see good surfing and you can escape to Lanzarote for a week, you won’t regret it. I’m taking the boat it just a few hours, so depending on the internet connection, I’ll be updating from the beach.

Test winner

The Quatro KT quad 76 wins the 75 litres wave board test at the October issue of Windsurf Magazine. It really looks like they enjoyed the board when they say: You’ll like: everything about it. You won’t like: nothing.

Wind!

After a few quiet days, the trade winds are back in Pozo Izquierdo, nothig epic but good wind for 4,7-4,2 and it´s supposed to get better during the day, maybe some waves later. Nobody windsrfing yet, so I'm going now.

This morning, 3 spanish surfers (Jonathan González, Hodei Collazo & Gony Zubizarreta) classified for the quarter finals at the Quiksilver Pro Portugal (WQS 6*) at Ericeira, and right now you can watch live a  from Santa Cruz (California) the O’Neill Cold Water Classic (WQS 6* prime), with nice waves at Steamer Lane.

Just arived at Cutre, the surf & windsurf shop in Pozo Izquierdo, a bunch of new surfboards, with a little bit of everything, from fishes to hibrids with some regular thrusters too.

Wind & waves for the weekend

Looks like we are having good windsurfing condtitions in Pozo Izquierdo for the weekend and the start of next week, and not only wind, the forecast talks about nice waves too.

I haven't heard about Mike Eskimo for a while, I think I'm not wrong if I say he is the guy who had more covers in windsurfing magazines, yes, even more than Robby Naish. Now with the SUP, looks like he has the same "go for it" attitude.

Aritz Aranburu wins at Rio de Janeiro

Aritz Aranburu wins the 6 star at Rio de Janeiro and has good chances to qualify for the WCT next year.

Saturday with no wind at Pozo Izquierdo, but a nice day on the beach.

Kelly wins at Supertubos

With this victory in Portugal, Kelly Slater is really close to his 10th surfing world title, with still two events to finish, the tilte could be decided at the next venue in Puerto Rico, if not, then the climax of the season would be at the last event at Pipeline, Oahu.

If Kelly is 3rd or better at Puerto Rico he will be world champion, if he gets a 5th or 9th, then Jordy Smith needs to win to still be in contention for the title, if Kelly loses in second or third round, then Jordy needs a 3rd, and if Jordy is 5th or worse, then, no matter what Kelly does, he is world champion.

I’m always impressed when I see Bethany Hamilton surf with just one arm (in the picture) who is in this contest thanks to a wildcard from Rip Curl.

The Beast

Looks like the first big swell of the season is just around the corner, and will hit the west coast of Europe by Friday, but with strong winds. Those waves will arrive at the Canary Islands by the weekend, and looks like the wind will be light or even glassy.

Colgate World Cup Sylt 2010

The competition at Sylt is over, Björn won the slalom and finishes second at the overall, Antoine is the slalom world champion 2010. Gollito won the freestyle at Sylt and was already freestyle world champion before the event. It was no chance to do the waves at Sylt, so Daida is the women wave world champion 2010 and for the men, we will have to wait to Cabo Verde to know who is the 2010 wave world champion.
Congratulations to John Carter for his pictures, not just the action ones, as you can see, he's been really inspired with the portaits during this event.
