Dawn patrol

Jonas was at my door at 6:30 we were at the north shore of the island at 7:00, Boquines was looking good, but we saw a guy getting barreled in the distance at La Derecha del Roque so we decided to go there, was great at the beginning but deteriorated with the tide, looks like we are having bad weather tomorrow, so I will edit more pictures then.

El Faro, morning session

51_0851_0651_0751_1051_09

As you can see, waves were nothing special this morning at El Faro, but the day was so nice that we had to go.

Later on, we knew the North Shore of the island had really good waves all morning, maybe that was the reason nobody was surfing with us in the South.

Small but fun

Nothing amazing this morning at El Faro, but some fun small waves with no wind and just four friends on the water, ah! and the light was perfect which was exactly what I was looking for.
I’ll post more photos from the session tonight, but now the day is too good to be at home editing photos.

Update from the Gold Coast

Troy Brooks gives us an update of the upcoming Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, looks like the Superbank is in great shape and they're having some good sessions to warm up.

Go out and watch the moon.

"Go out and watch the moon" that was the sentence I could hear on the phone a few minutes ago in a call from my friend Juan Enrique, I don't know if you can see it anywhere else, but at least in Pozo Izquierdo the sky tonight looks absolutely amazing; the photo doesn't show how weird and amazing is.

Richard "El Americano"

Homenaje Richard Atik "El americano" from Javier Fleitas on Vimeo.

Richard "El Americano" was one of the most beloved characters at La Cicer (the main beach in the city of Las Plamas de Gran Canaria), and as you can see in the video, when thousands of people are there to say goodbye, I think you can't say more.

Waterfalls in Gran Canaria

That was the view yesterday from Pozo Izquierdo, for sure our summer visitors are not used to see much green around Pozo Izquierdo, and even less three waterfalls. Not wind at the moment here in Pozo Izquierdo, but a nice view.

Keep trying

Having a good windsurfing session at Galdar is not that easy, you need a wind and swell configuration which doesn't happen that often and sometimes it just happens for a few hours. We tried like a month ago, the wind was there, but the waves were too small; yesterday we had the waves, big waves, but the wind was too light, at the end we had a small surf session at "la izquierda del bunker".
We will keep trying, when Galdar is on, can be really amazing.

Session at "el Faro"

Is not that often we have the right conditions for a good windsurfing session at the south point of Gran Canaria, "el Faro de Maspalomas"; west wind a good sized WNW swell, but that was exactly what we had today. And despite the forecast said it would rain, we had clear blue sky all day long, I don't know if was raining in the North of the island, but definitely not in the south.
The forecast is still good for tomorrow, but with this wind direction you never know.
I have to thank Hotel IFA Faro for letting me use their terrace to take some pictures from above and avoid a little bit the backlight we allways have at this spot. I'll post more picutres tomorrow.

Wipe out of the year?

Amazing shot from Francisco Porcella at Jaws, I saw it at www.windsurfingmag.com a serious contender for wipe out of the year.
If you want to know the story behind the photo, click HERE.

Fuerteventura

I've always heard that when you can see Fuerteventura from Gran Canaria, means that rain is coming; well, that was the view of Fuerteventura yesterday afternoon from Pozo Izquierdo, and although today we are having a sunny day, looks like the weather is on the way.

Happy birthday!

Today Kelly Slater celebrates his 38th birthday, I have never seen him, so I don't have any pictures of him; the closest to a portait of him I have, is this signed copy of his book "For the love" that Jonas gave me after his travel to NY where he met the man himself.

Ultimate wave Tahiti 3D

Last night was the premiere in L.A. for the IMAX 3D movie with Kelly Slater and Raimana van Bastolaer at Tahiti; for more information: www.ultimatewavetahiti.com

Light and flat, but fun

50_2250_2150_2450_2950_2650_3050_3150_2750_2850_2550_23

I don't know if it's because I'm getting old, but I'm having a lot of fun in days like today, with light wind and nearly no waves at all.

In fact, the pictures posted here are not from today, I was feeling so good on the water, that when I realized I still had to take pictures, it was too late, and the detail that my keys were inside the car, and the car was closed, but that's another story.

Truth is, I was not the only one having fun despite the poor conditions (5,3-4,7), looked like everybody was enjoying the session, maybe because the afternoon was splendid (warm and sunny), maybe because it's supposed to be the last day of wind in a few days, or maybe because the modern light wind equipment works much better than the old stuff.

El Faro (2)

50_1750_1550_1250_1450_1350_16

Difficult light yesterday afternoon, changing every second, backlight, clouds, sun, calima (sand from the Sahara in the air) and really high colour temperature at the evening, so I had to keep readjusting my settings for nearly every single shot, but now as I watch the pictures I want to go surfing, I think that's a good sign, I wish you enjoy the pictures.

33 Americas Cup

Tomorrow Wednesday in Valencia at 13:00 local time and if they have the propper wind conditions, we will see the first race of the 33rd edition of the Americas Cup.

Windy!

The wind is back here in Pozo Izquierdo, now it's 11:00 and looks good for 4,7 so lets see if I can put my hands on that quad from Quatro everybody is talking about.

Afternoon at "el Faro"

Don't even know how to start, I have hundreds of photos from this afternoon at "el Faro" (the lighthouse), wasn't really good mid afternoon, with some wind, but the wind was getting lighter as the day advanced and waves were getting better and better, maybe smaller, but glassy; everybody was going out of the water with one of those big smiles in their faces.
I will post more photos during the next days
